Over the course of two decades, Westland Greenhouses has blossomed into one of the premier garden centres on the shores of Lake Huron, Ontario. Our commitment to quality plants and exceptional service has earned us a reputation that sets us apart, providing customers with an extraordinary experience in our expansive space.
In 2000, the VanAdrichem family (Paul & Anita along with their 4 children- Anne, Paul, Hein, Jette) immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands and purchased the Grand Bend property. The property, consisting primarily of a large potato field and a very small greenhouse (which is no longer standing) needed new facilities. Paul and Anita, both growers’ children, knew the challenges they faced in starting a retail garden centre and a wholesale business in Canada. Facing these challenges head on, they opened the doors to their new facility on October 17, 2000.

Our space has grown and changed dramatically since then but our focus has not! Our promise to you, our customer, is to provide unique and high quality products to improve your home and garden. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff will help you, our valued customer, with any of your requests. We pride ourselves on carrying unusual find items and providing our customers with an experience rather than 'just' a visit.
Throughout the year, our garden center remains open, adapting our space and crops to the changing seasons. We warmly welcome families and pets, with bunnies hopping around outside during the warmer months, and an indoor enclosure housing birds and guinea pigs open year round. Additionally, we offer complimentary coffee and cookies for all visitors to enjoy.
In addition to our retail garden center, we also operate a wholesale business growing anthuriums and peace lilies that are distributed all over North America. We invite you to check out our "tours" page if you're interested in learning more about our wholesale department.
Over the past two decades, we have experienced growth and learning as a team. We want to express our gratitude to our dedicated customers who have been with us throughout this journey, and extend a warm welcome to our new customers joining the Westland Greenhouses family.
Westland Greenhouses - where does our name come from?
When Paul and Anita immigrated from the Netherlands, they left an area in Holland called 'Het Westland'. This area, located in South West Holland is also nicknamed 'De glazen stad' which literally translates to the glass city because of the abundant amount of greenhouses in the area. From a bird's eye view, the entire town looks like one big glass greenhouse!
Paul and Anita, both born & raised within the greenhouse industry and both coming from a very long line of growers, have growing in their blood! A trait that has now been passed onto their children and grand children.
